About Pilbara Disability Network

At the Pilbara Disability Network, our mission is to enhance the lives of people with disabilities in the Pilbara region by fostering a community that is inclusive, accessible, and supportive. Guided by lived experience, we are dedicated to promoting equal opportunities, advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities, and providing the resources needed to empower our community.

Our Goals
  • Our advocacy efforts lead to significant improvements in public accessibility, including an increase in the number of accessible public facilities and housing options.

  • Our information and referral services connect individuals and families to essential supports, dramatically improving their quality of life and independence.

  • Our monthly meetings become a vital platform for community members to share their experiences and insights, leading to a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

  • Participation in our community awareness campaigns leads to a greater understanding of disability issues and increased community involvement.

Our Unique Approach
  • We take a peer-support model approach, where individuals with disabilities actively participate in the design and delivery of our consultations. This ensures that our services are not only relevant but also impactful.

  • Our online service directory is a pioneering effort in the Pilbara region, providing a one-stop resource for disability-specific services. We also engage with local businesses and the community to drive tangible changes in both the physical and social environment, promoting greater accessibility and inclusion.

  • Through partnerships with local governments and service providers, we have influenced policy changes and the development of new services tailored to meet the needs of people with disabilities in our region.

Our Vision

People with Disability living a life full of opportunity in the Pilbara.

What do we actually do? All sorts of things! But we particularly pride ourselves on:

We feel it is important to represent the Pilabra as a whole, which is why we aim to build a picture of what disability looks like across the whole region, so that we can advocate for our regional communities effectively.

Extending our network reach

If you are launching a new service, starting a new project or hosting a community event, our network is available for consultations to provide key insights into accessibility and disability community need.

Act as an independent network

Creating change in community and advocating for disability rights is hard. But by working together, as a collective voice, we aim to make small changes, one step at a time.

Small Changes, one step at a time

We're passionate about giving people with disability a voice in their community. We aim to build a committee that represents many different lived experience perspectives, to better inform co-design, advocacy efforts and community initiatives.
